Default The Robert J Novins Planetarium

The Robert J Novins Planetarium

The Novins Planetarium is one of the distinctive features of the Ocean County College Campus, and the only public planetarium in the area. Planetarium shows and programs are offered for all ages. With public sky shows, observing sessions, school programs and classes for both adults and children, there is something available for anyone interested in exploring the wonders of our universe.

One of the largest planetariums in New Jersey, we seat 118 people under our 40-foot dome. Inside, you can relax in the comfort of your seat, while our extensive array of equipment re-creates the night sky and other spectacular celestial objects . . . taking you from the Jersey Shore, to the far reaches of the cosmos.

Most of our shows are original productions written and created by the Planetarium staff. Following the show, you can always find a knowledgeable show presenter available to answer your questions.
=============================================
This a real treasure in Ocean County. If you are visiting the Jersey Shore this planetarium is worth a visit. (maybe several )

I always loved going on the school trips there. Something about it was more exciting then your average planenterian. The staff was great, and i can honestly say its not easy to make such a trip fun in the 3rd or 2nd grade, but it was. I never remembered seeing anyone sleep there, and thats a compliment. GREAT place, and I truely like visiting

New Jersey is great for science places such as that. The Liberty Science Center as we all know is one of the amazing places, just to name one.

The Robert J Novins Planetarium theater will be closed for renovation until further notice. Check back here or at the official website (linked above) for the reopening date. The Planetarium will return with brand new equipment, projectors and video system to take families and groups on some fantastic voyages, indeed.

A.S.T.R.A. (the Astronomical Society of the Toms River Area) will meet elsewhere during the Planetarium renovation -- for those who would like to be more involved in the exciting world of astronomy. Visit their website for details.

Although the theater is currently closed, we are still working to bring the universe to the people of Ocean County and the surrounding area. A variety of school outreach programs have been assembled and our knowledgeable lecturers are available to bring these programs to your students. Similar programs are also an excellent option for scout groups and after-school programs.

The new planetarium theater will feature the latest projection technology and allow us to bring you the universe in innovative and exciting new ways. The planetarium dome will become a virtual 3-D video space, allowing us to take you on a journey from the smallest size scales to the edge of the universe, and a new fiber-optic star projector will provide a beautiful, crisp view of the night sky. We are looking forward to the day that the stars will return, shining brighter than ever. Check back often for the latest information, special events, and how you can become a part of our universe.
