Default Devils...and Flyers and their fans

I must say it was nice to see "the kids" step up and do as well as they did with all the personnel changes (loss of longtime veterans). Just sorry they didn't make it further.

I've been living outside of Philadelphia the last 3 years. It is very unpleasant. Can't really talk hockey. I never visited Philly to see a game with the fan club...and feel it was the right thing to do. I've always hated the Flyers and their fans the most and now I really feel justified. City of Brotherly Love? They may have moments where they are good to each other but they certainly don't know how to treat outsiders. I definitely do not like Philadelphia. This feels like a different world. Anyone understand? People in NJ don't seem to believe its different over here. Everything is very different.

I agree with your sentiment that the average PHL fan treats outsiders with little if no respect. I think this holds more for Football and Hockey games than with Baseball though.

I have gone into the VET with NY Yankee cap and received no problems from other people.

I have heard of "grown" men heckle and throw beer at a 9 year old at a Flyers game. Kid was a Jaromir Jagear (sp?) fan and the Penguins were playing the Flyers in PHL. The kid were Jaromir's jersey at the game.

A freind of mine has season tickets to Eagle games. If he or anyone else saw someone with non-eagle "colors" they would be heckled and even have some things thrown in their direction. (food, liquids, debris, etc.)

I think everyone should be able to enjoy a game without fear of being physically abused.
    Sincerely,
    Anthony

    Default Flyers Fans

My friends have gone on trips to watch the Devils play in Philly.
One male Flyers fan was taking swings at a Devils fan - SHE just wanted to go to the ladies room. What guy tries to punch a woman who is a fan of the opposite team?
The fan club bus gets a police escort.
The Devils fans get mooned and more...
    Pretty sad. But that's Philadelphia!

You know - i just say that it shows that New Jerseyans just have more class. I actually didn't know that it was that bad between the Devils and Flyers. The Devils seem to have more of a rivalry with the Rangers - well that's how it's portrayed anyway.

BTW - I really question who the Trentonian newspaper represents. It's supposed to be a NJ paper - and when the playoffs were going on and hte Devils were playing the Flyers - they acted as if the Devils were the foreign team. New Jerseyans better start getting a map out and determine who benefits this state and who doesn't.
New Jersey is the only state honored by two resorts at Walt Disney World. The Beach Club Resort, modeled after Historic Cape May and The Boardwalk Resort, after Atlantic City. If the Jersey Shore is good enough for Walt Disney to recreate, isn't the REAL Jersey Shore even better for you and your family?

In north Jersey people were Ranger fans and in south Jersey they are Flyer fans (before the Devils came to NJ). There are still diehard Ranger fans in north Jersey and Flyers fans in south Jersey. If you live in North Jersey you see the Rangers as the prime enemy because of proximity. I always hated the bullies more though. I lived in and around Princeton and it is definitely Flyers territory. It's no surprise Trenton papers give more coverage to the Flyers and of course we get Philly stations in that area so Devils coverage was poor.
It was a pain to drive to the Meadowlands for games and I definitely only felt a small amount of comraderie. After a game we would only see a few cars of Devils fans heading back to the area.

OOOOH - you used the "n" and "s" word - but at least you used them in lower case. The proper form is - "northern New Jersey" and "southern New Jersey". At some point in time I know I will solve this north/south divide this state suffers from.

Spoke too soon about the capitilization here.

As for your statements, it's all about marketing. The Devils really need to get out there more and show they are a statewide team. I've never seen the Devils go to any events in princeton. They do do events along the shore though. I lived in South Brunswick and Plainsboro, the majority of people there seem to be devils fans - and I have mostly encountered Devils fans in Princeton. When you gt south of Trenton though - things start changing.
