    Default Tourist!

How offensive to be classified as a "Tourist"...
(I was born, raised and lived most of my adult life in NJ)
    How do I change that?

    Thanks!

You keep posting. It changes to "recent resident" after 10 posts. You're just lucky we didn't have the first category what we had initially thought about.
New Jersey is the only state honored by two resorts at Walt Disney World. The Beach Club Resort, modeled after Historic Cape May and The Boardwalk Resort, after Atlantic City. If the Jersey Shore is good enough for Walt Disney to recreate, isn't the REAL Jersey Shore even better for you and your family?

BTW - just to let people know - after 500 posts, you get to choose your own title. At 500 the default is "NJ Ambassador" though. So you can either keep that, or have your own. As of so far though, no need to worry about yet, no one is really close to hitting the 500 post mark.

Default "Tourist" offensive to former long time resident

Well that's a relief to know. I was going through my configuration trying to find a place to change it. I have to work on more postings.

What was the former initial title?

You are almost out of the tourist stage - only 4 more posts.

The one that is funny, but we thought it might offend some potential visitors was Naw Yawka. They always clainm that we say Joisey.

    Default Joisey

I have heard a lot of arguments over who has the accent...
Luckily I don't have one (I lived mostly in the Woodbridge area and the Princeton area). The closer you get to NYC the worst it gets.

There is no question about it - it's NY that has the accent. As you said, it gets worse the closer you get to NY. We talk about this in other areas of the board, the accent obviously just doesn't stop at the river (there isn't some invisible fense up between NY and NJ, although sometimes I wish there was ), but continues into NJ a little bit. What's really funny is that way people think of as a NJ accent - is really more of a Brooklyn accent. Oh well, at some point people may learn not to pay attention to everything they hear on late night talk shows and what comedians say.

Cool What is in a title?

What is the great deal about a title? Apparently a lot, going by what a few other members have said. Well, I was a tourist in the beginning and I am not really sure when I am going to end up as an ambassador. But hey, it is only a title, right? Either way, I am sure that by now you would have worked your way out of being a tourist. Though that does beg the question, for the admin -
what was the first category that you guys thought of? Care to share? Hope so.

    Smile In addition

Hey forgot to add my 2 bits on accents. I have no idea why some people choose to make simple pronunciation seem like a day job in the tower of babel. I agree with the part of NY but the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of NJ's going about who seem to make 'swallowing their words' the first businesss of the day. It really is hard to make sense of the conversation when nearly all the syllables seem to go on a hiatus!
