Default 2006 Governor's Conference on Tourism

Well tomorrow I'm off to AC for the Governor's Conference on Tourism. I'll be gone from the April 5th - 7th. In the morning tomorrow I also have Summit On The Shore. I'm not sure if the Taj will have wi-fi or not. I sort of doubt it - they want people to be gambling - not in their hotel rooms on the net. Not sure if I'll even be able to check the messageboard. Anyway - if I am able to come online - I'll try making some posts about what is going on. Corzine has said he will be there. Codey didn't show the last year.

Tomorrow we have the reception at the House of Blues. It's going to be a long couple of days for me. I feel like everything is non-stop running around, between meetings, travel shows, conferences, etc. But I guess being busy is better than nothing.

If the Jersey Shore is good enough for Walt Disney to recreate, isn't the REAL Jersey Shore even better for you and your family?

Well crazy day today. Tomorrow is the first day of the conference. Today I went to the Main Street seminar. Well I made a mistake - for some reason I was thinking the governor's conference was taking place at the Taj, probably because it's next to the House of Blues. Instead - I went to the Taj to check in and they didn't have my reservation. As it ended up, the conference is at the Trump Plaza. Well I'm here now. I requested a Ocean view window - not that i'll be in my room much, but at least when the sun comes up I can see it come up over the ocean. I'm on the 7h floor so I have a reall good view.

Because of the mix-up between the Taj and Plaza - I ended up not getting to the reception until 7:00 and it only lasted until 8:00pm. I don't think I got my money forth on that one. I paid $35 toattend the reception and I ended up only eating a lamp chop and a crab cake, and I had a coke. Part of it was also that I was full from all the food at the previous seminar.

The shore always feels odd to me in the off season. Even when we lived at the shore, we didn't really go to the boardwalk or anything in the winter. It's also rather cold outside, it was snowing a bit I guess, and so no one is really walking the boards. But still, all the little shops along The Boardwalk (this is Atlantic City, so its capitalized) are closed.

There still is a lot of construction going on around here. That's a good sign. Rumor has it that another casino is going to be built. I don't know how much I'll be able to get out and about. We're supposed to have food vouchers or something, because they want the attendees to tour the city and help out some of the local restaurants. Last year everything was just contained in the Trump Marina. I never left once, other than for the reception. Being on The Boardwalk though gives a much better chance of me leaving. I love walking the boards with the waves crashing, the sound of the seagulls and smell the salt air. Nothing beats the ocean. I've been to the mountains of oregon and Washington, the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona and the Bayous of new Orleans, but nothing beats the ocean. As you can tell, I'm itching to be outside, so I imagine at some point I will attempt to.

Well I guess I'll post more tomorrow. Tomorrow is the big day for everything.

Hi Jersey Devil, It all sounds terribly exciting. Please let us know how it goes and what Corzine had to say. lol. Did you get to play some slots while you were there? I can hardly wait to hear how it all went. The ocean is indeed awesome. There is something mysterious about it. Take care and have a good time. Marianita

Here was an article on CNN.com....

New Jersey tourism receives Bon Jovi boost
    Wednesday, April 19, 2006; Posted: 1:23 p.m. EDT (17:23 GMT)

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's tourism industry is getting some help from Sayreville native Jon Bon Jovi, who's lending his new hit single to a state advertising campaign.

"Who Says You Can't Go Home" will be featured in commercials throughout the region, Gov. Jon S. Corzine said during a state tourism conference in Atlantic City.

"We're going to have a different kind of ad campaign this year -- one that is fun, focused on something that is very positive from its perspective on New Jersey and from somebody we all know and love," Corzine said.

The song is riding high on the Billboard Hot 100 list and a duet version with Jennifer Nettles is near the top of the country charts.

The Jersey shore version of the 30-second television ad will include video shots of a boat from Cape May, Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island and other classic shore scenes.

An alternate version shows horseback riding, golf and fly fishing.

The commercials will start airing this month, with commercials for the fall airing later in the year, according to New Jersey Commerce Secretary Virginia S. Bauer.

Corzine and Bauer said Bon Jovi, along with fellow band member and songwriter Richie Sambora, waived royalty fees for the song so New Jersey could use it.
I have a slight problem with the commercial though. I didn't get the sense that the images matched the pace of the song. It's basically the same commercials as we have had - sans the governor finally - and the images are nice, but the Bon Jovi song is fast paced and they didn't do anything with the images to really get people exicted about New Jersey. You see the Colonial Williamsburg commercial and it has a fast paced sound track and images to match - it gets you excited.
