The General Shore Discussion Forum seems to be a popular place for spambots to post threads advertising pornography and other such inappropriate material. Please be assured that this is a FAMILY MESSAGEBOARD and is soley for discussing New Jersey and the many tourist attractions. We do not tolerate these spammers and we attempt to delete the offending threads as soon as we can.

Thank you for your understanding.

Because of the pornographic spam appearing in this forum, any new threads started in the General New Jersey Shore forum will have to get approval before appearing on the site. I can NOT allow the sexually explicit photos to be appearing in these threads. If this does not solve the problem, then the next step will be to ban [img] tags in this forum.

I have to keep a balance between ease of use, while maintaining the family friendliness of this forum. I do NOT want to resort to having to moderate all new threads. The problems are not legitimate members, the problem is caused by spam bots - which are basically the same "creatures" that inundate your e-mail inbox with viagra ads. I hope you will be understanding with the steps I have had to take.

A good solution to an ongoing problem, JD. We've discussed this before and this sounds like the only practical alternative, short of having someone monitor the board 24/7 and who has time for that!

This board plays an important part in helping to rebuild New Jersey's image, and maintaining its family-friendly character is certainly part of that goal.

Yeah and having the one forum require new threads to be approved doesn't cut down on the ease of use too much. I don't want to require approvals on all the forums because then it restricts the "give and take" of a discussion. I just can't have people coming here and seeing pornographic stuff - especially since the latest posted threats are displayed on the main page at AboutNewJersey.com

I very much appreciate your help in moderating.

Unfortunately, even with a 24X7 monitoring process, it may not be enough to cut out the spambots. The problem is one of 'too many'. The only thing that anyone can do is to delete the bots when they start to make thier apperance felt in the forum. Good luck! Hope that you are successful!
