Great Adventure (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/) will be opening shortly. April 2nd they're having coasters after dark. I think I might go to that. I'm having GA withdrawal and it's been getting worse. :bounce: I'm so excited. :excited:

What are your favoirite rides?

I love Medusa still. Nitro is awesome also - especially the back. Superman is great - when it works. Hopefully they won't have the problems this year they had last. Half the times I went it was either only one train running or it was down completely.

I'm excited for you, JD! Have fun when it opens.

Wow, it's open at night? Our theme parks aren't usually (except for Luna Park, I think, and some others). Going on a rollercoaster at night sounds scary. How long's it been closed for?

Trying to find that picture of that ride, the one that seems terrifying, from one of those links you gave me, JD. Dang.

That's odd. Most theme parks in New Jersey are open into the night. The night is the best time to go. :) It is tons of fun.

How long's it been closed for?

October 31st I think is when it closed this year. It open through Halloween - because they have Frightfest. Then it reopens in April. Can't really go on rollercoasters in the snow. Also- even in october it gets a bit cold. My favorite time to go to Great Adventure is actually in the fall though. it's so beautiful to see the leaves changing colors and the crisp air.

Which ride is that? What was it like?

I don't know, we don't have many theme parks down in my state of Victoria. Queensland, where your Aussie Cousin comes from, has really good ones that close at 5pm if I recall correctly.
Now I'm really excited about your theme parks. :) NJ at night!
What are these boardwalk theme parks you've mentioned?

It closes every year? I can't remember if ours do or not.

I don't remember. I'm only joking. It's the one with the bland picture- a simulator or something. :?:

Well if you come out here - you will really have to try going to Great Adventure.

You can get a list of the amusement parks on my theme park (http://www.aboutnewjersey.com/AmusementParks/ThemeParks/index.htm) page. Here is Casino Pier (http://www.casinopier-waterworks.com/casinopier.html) and Morey's Pier (http://www.moreyspiers.com/).

yeah - can't really ride the rides in 32 degree weather. :)

Well I know I never gave you a bland picture - let alone one of a simulator.

Right. I forgot about your snow. :D

No, the ride picture was on the same page as another ride pic. (Maybe Nitro?).

Do your theme parks have any "unique" rides, that others won't have? Or something that makes them really special?

Well yeah - for two Superman and Nitro. :) Medusa was the first floorless coaster. Here is a pic of the Superman ride... http://www.gadv.com/SUP4.jpg
It's from Great Adventure Source. For more pics go to their Superman (http://www.gadv.com/gallerysuperman.html) page. There you can also see pics of before Great Adventure had reopened - with snow on the ground. :)

Thanks, that's really cool.

I mean, do you have any rides that are STILL unique today? (In America at least). I'd like to check them out whilst over there. When I get over there. :)

Not really probably. Most roller coasters are so expensive to make that they are usually built for several parks at the same time. Batman and Robin: Chiller (http://www.gadv.com/batmanrobingallery.html) is pretty unique though, not sure if there any other's the same as it. It works with a maglev system and catapults the trains out at 0-6omph in I think 3 seconds.

When I first read this, I thought you meant they share rides. (You don't mean that, do you?).

Impressive. Terrifying, but impressive. Profuse thanks for all the answers to the questions, JD. :)

No - I don't mean that. It's just cheaper to spread the cost of design and so forth over several parks. Then the parks get their own coaster - but the design cost is spread out.

Wow! You can get pics on here!

Look - if you like, I can go to Dreamworld/Seaworld/Movieworld (all in Qld) so I can put pics up here. All for research purposes, of course......

Sorry - if I allow you to post pics of Australian stuff - then I will have to allow everyone to post things from all over. I may be adding a general area - where people can discuss anything.

I AM SO GOING TO DO THAT COASTER!

JerseyDevil
03-31-2004, 12:04 AM
It is a cool coaster. What is especially cool is when it goes through the loop and you are facing straight down and then when it comes out of the loop - you're on your back. What sucks is that it kept breaking down last year. I hope they have it fixed this year. It was brand new - so it had to have all the kinks worked out.

April 2nd is when GA opens up. I'm thinking of going by myself. I have no one else to go with and I don't think my cousin can go. So I suppose I will go by myself.

Ya got me all humble now, Jersey Devil :)

Well, I don't know about travelling to US any more. With the change of the laws to even us Australians, it means it will be harder to come visit.

Damn those terrorists!
